Citizen Journalism?

What is citizen journalism? If I'm a immigrant from Spain and I cover a story for CNN will that be Citizen Journalism or Immigrant Journalism

You wouldn't do a story for CNN. That would mean you work for them. You do stories or blogs or Tweets yourself and if CNN were to choose to use your stories or photos, than that would be more like it.

This blog and even this comment I am writing can be considered citizen journalism...I think.

So if you think comments and tweets are considered citizen journalism are Facebook posts also considered citizen journalism?? I mean I just feel like that's a little vague because saying "I'm hungry" on FB doesn't make you a journalist...I do agree, however, that FB, Twitter and these other social utilities could be used as platforms for citizen journalism reports. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it all depends on the content being posted...I think

I'm not really sure. If you think about it, saying "I'm hungry" on Facebook or Twitter could be considered reporting. In a weird way...I think.

I think a citizen journalist is anyone who isn't obligated to write for a major news corporation but still performs similar tasks that a professional journalist would. They would check facts and interview people for further content. Most people do this in the form of blogs, user comments, and on social media sites.

So while I think Facebook and Twitter are outlets for journalism, it doesn't mean everything on there should be journalism. A status update about your hunger is technically reporting like Dan said because it's reporting your state of well being. But it's not journalism because in order for something to be considered journalism, it has to have some public interest, IMO.

I agree that the certain content on facebook or twitter can be considered journalism if it had some sort of relation or interest towards the general public. But in general like Pham said, Facebook and twitter arent used to produce info of interest to the general public. And even if there were items of interest, the information privded might be biased or opinion-based, so the reader has a decision to make to trust what they read or not.
